I had emachines etower 667(designed for Win ME),everything was fine until I installed Windows 98. There was no sound and I searched and searched but on the whole internet cant find any driver for it. So I pondered elsewhere and found the name "Intel 82801AA Controller AC 97 Driver for windows 98" but finding driver was again hard.Somehow I managed to get a wonderful sound from my speakers by using these drivers. May be this can help the deprived ones.
